UGC Quality Mandate: Suggestive Academic Activities

Dear Colleagues
As you are aware, the nation is passing through an unprecedented time. During this 21-day nationwide lockdown, while we practice social distancing and work from home in an effort to keep everyone safe from COVID-19, let this situation not impact our morale and productivity. In fact, we, as academic leaders, should provide constant guidance to our academic fraternity and inspire them to make productive use of this period. Let us, therefore, utilise this period more creatively and purposefully
The University Grants Commission(UGC) in its endeavour to address the major challenges faced by the higher education system in India today, comprising employability of graduates, upholding state-of-the-art curriculum, enrichment and maintenance of quality teaching, research and services, adoption of ICT for teaching-learning and preparing the next generation as socially responsible citizens and leaders, has adopted UGC Quality Mandate for improving the quality in higher education institutions
These initiatives , as mentioned below, are available in the form of guidelines and frameworks as e-books in downloadable format on the UGC website https://www.ugc.ac.in/ebook.aspx
1. Deeksharambh: Student Induction Programme (SIP)
2. LOCF: Learning Outcomes based Curriculum Framework for Undergraduate Education. 3. JEEVAN KAUSHAL: Curriculum for Life skills. 4. Social and Industry Connect: Fostering Social Responsibility & Community Engagement in HEls in India
5. CARE: Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (For Publication of Research Papers)
6. STRIDE: Scheme for Trans-Disciplinary Research for India's Developing Economy. 7. SATAT: Framework for Eco-friendly and Sustainable Campus Development
8. MULYA PRAVAH: Guidelines for Inculcation of Human Values and Professional Ethics
9. Evaluation Reforms in HEIS: Guidelines for reforms in evaluation & assessment systems
10. GURUDAKSHTA: Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) for newly appointed faculty members
11. PARAMARSH: Scheme for Mentoring NAAC Accreditation Aspirant Institutions to promote Quality Assurance in Higher Education
During this nation-wide lockdown, let us engage our academic fraternity meaningfully and contribute towards intellectual wealth of our nation. In this context, I request you to take appropriate action for developing institutional implementation plan for above-mentioned quality mandate initiatives by constituting a Task Group of 5-10 faculty members for each activity and share the same on University Activity Monitoring Portal i.e. www.ugc.ac.in/uamp of UGC
Besides the above, "Governance in Higher Education: A Handbook for Vice-Chancellors" is also available as an e-book
I hope that collectively we shall overcome this tough time by taking all possible preventive and precautionary measures
Stay at Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Active and Stay Safe
With Regards
Yours sincerely
(D. P. Singh)
